The 39-year-old also pointed out the stunning form and the great composure shown by Indian wicket-keeper batter KL Rahul. Ashwin admitted that Rahul has to be praised for having performed in whichever position he has been sent in to bat. He has also been playing a flexible role in the team.
“Obviously, a spot of bother, lost four wickets early, he then did a buildup. There was a slow partnership with Jadeja, but after that, in the end, he was playing aggressively. There is always talk about Rohit and Kohli, but we need to understand that underrated and less sung is KL Rahul,” mentioned KL Rahul’s former teammate Ravichandran Ashwin.
Ashwin answers criticism over Ayush Badoni’s selection
India made a call that surprised many: Ayush Badoni was drafted into the ODI squad as a replacement for Washington Sundar; however, the decision was criticized fiercely by several greats and media personalities who claimed that this was clear backing from Gambhir to players from Delhi.
However, Ashwin has cited the example of Harshit Rana, who has now played crucial hands for India with both the bat and ball, but was earlier criticized for being backed by Gautam Gambhir. Hence, he has asked to be patient on the matter of Ayush Badoni as well.
“So we must not decide things early. These are all our players. Ayush Badoni has a lot of skill. He has performed to come here. You can’t say he has come without performance,” he said.
